Kaka to forgo pay while injured

AC Milan forward Kaka says he will refuse to be paid for the time it takes him to recover after being sidelined for up to a month due to a tear of his left adductor muscle.

Kaka's AC Milan return was not a happy one.

A scan on Monday revealed the extent of an injury the Brazilian picked up during his second debut for the Rossoneri on Saturday, ruling him out of training for the next ten days before further exams will take place.

He will consequently miss AC Milan’s opening Champions League game against Celtic on Wednesday and at least the next three Serie A matches, but he says he does not want to be a burden on the club and will therefore forgo his first month’s wages as a Milan player.

"As you will have read on the Milan site about my injury, it really is a horrible day for me because I did not expect this," wrote Kaka. "I’ve decided to suspend my own salary during this period because all I want from Milan instead is support and affection to help me cure as quickly as possible.

"I’ve started physiotherapy today and your affection in these days will give me the lift and the motivation to get back onto the field as quickly as possible. It’s a difficult time and I hope to be back on the field as soon as possible."

Kaka lasted only 70 minutes of his second debut for Milan on Saturday following his return to the club from Real Madrid, and he appeared exhausted as he left the field of play in Turin.

He was unable to train on Sunday and instead underwent tests, which revealed the injury and added his name to the long list of absentees for Wednesday’s clash with Celtic.

Giampaolo Pazzini, Ignazio Abate, Matias Silvestre, Daniele Bonera, Riccardo Montolivo and Mattia De Sciglio have also been ruled out while Stephan El Shaarawy is a big doubt.

AC Milan head into their Champions League opener with Celtic on Wednesday with more than just a few injury concerns with captain Riccardo Montolivo booking his place in the treatment room at the weekend.

The Italy international will find himself in good company inside Milanello’s medical complex after injuring his left leg in Milan’s 2-2 draw at Torino on Saturday. There, he joins Giampaolo Pazzini, Ignazio Abate, Matias Silvestre, Daniele Bonera and Mattia De Sciglio.

The quintet will also be joined by Andrea Poli, who suffered severe bruising in Saturday’s draw at the Stadio Olimpico, although his permanence is likely to be shorter with a good chance he will be fit to face the Scots on Wednesday.
