Udinese are a great club, says Basta

Udinese full-back Dusan Basta has said he does not need to move anywhere to feel he is playing for a big club.

Inter Milan have registered an interest in the 28-year-old wing-back – but he has stressed that he is happy at Udinese, where he has played European football for three consecutive seasons.

"I think I am worthy of a big club, but Udinese have now become a great club," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Maybe we are even stronger now [than last season]. Nevertheless, we must remain humble and be focused, never forgetting where we come from.

"Our objective is to do well, particularly in the league because Serie A is what matters - but of course if you get past the last 16 of the Coppa Italia, that gives you a boost and it gives you hope, too."

The Zebrette are in the Europa League again and face Siroki Brijeg over two legs, with a trip to Bosnia-Herzegovina next week before the second leg in Trieste a week later.

"I think every cup competition needs to be honoured because Europe is an important, prestigious stage to play on," said Basta, who hopes to improve on last season's showing. Then, Udinese finished bottom of a group that was won by Liverpool and also included Anji Makhachkala and Young Boys Berne.

Udinese forward Antonio Di Natale said the players had "got to make sure we're ready" for the games against Siroki Brijeg, telling the Udinese Channel. "The two legs are like a final for us. Our only goal is to overcome this obstacle, and we're working really hard for this."
