Osvaldo close to Fulham switch

Pablo Daniel Osvaldo could become a Premier League player this weekend, with Fulham emerging as the new favourites to sign the Roma forward.

Pablo Osvaldo has been booted out of the Italy squad.
Osvaldo has been a target for disgruntled Roma fans.

Osvaldo, 27, has become unsettled and has been a recent target for abuse from fans, with Roma looking to offload him.

The Italy international was the subject of a bid from Southampton – a move Roma reportedly accepted but the player did not - but a switch to London now looks imminent.

Roma's director of sport, Walter Sabatini, was reported to have held talks with Fulham in the capital this week, although the main reason for his trip to the UK was to meet Arsenal and negotiate a deal to sign Gervinho.

The Cote d'Ivoire international spent two years working with new Roma coach Rudi Garcia at Lens, and is the club's prime transfer target.

The sale of Osvaldo would make a move for Gervinho more likely, freeing up more funds to match Arsenal's asking price.

Meanwhile, Roma have already found a replacement for Stekelenburg, with Morgan De Sanctis arriving from Napoli on a two-year deal.

The arrival of Pepe Reina in Naples paved the way for the move, and De Sanctis, Gianluigi Buffon's understudy in the Italy national team, said he was delighted to embark on a new adventure after four years with the Partenopei. “I can’t wait to start work,” he said. “I’m certain we’re going to have a great season.”
