Fulham open Stekelenburg talks

Fulham have opened talks with Netherlands international Maarten Stekelenburg.

Stekelenburg believes a move to Fulham is now a certainty

Roma goalkeeper Stekelenburg, 30, has been linked with a move to Craven Cottage for some time, and he had flown to London expecting to complete the switch on the final day of the January window only to see it fall through.

However, a deal - reportedly worth £3 million - is now in place, as Roma's sporting director, Franco Baldini, had confirmed. The player’s agent, Rob Jansen, said on his company’s website that he was to open talks on personal terms on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday, Rob Jansen begins the first talks with Fulham over the possible transfer of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg to the English Premier League club,” the statement read. “The current employer of the goalkeeper, AS Roma, and Fulham have already reached an agreement. Now the club and the player can finalise it.”

The goalkeeper took to his Twitter account on Monday to announce that the deal was due to be completed.
