Sampdoria: No agreement for Icardi sale

Sampdoria have said no deal has been agreed for the sale of striker Mauro Icardi despite interest from a string of clubs.

Icardi has been a hit for Sampdoria

Icardi, 20, has been linked with destinations including Serie A rivals Inter and Napoli as well as Premier League clubs Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool.

Sampdoria sporting director Carlo Osti said the Argentine striker had a long-term contract at Sampdoria and there was no agreement with any club about a deal.

He told Sky Sports Italia: “His departure is not certain. There is no agreement with any other club. Let us also remember that he has a contract here with us that will not expire until June 2015.”

Icardi rose through the ranks at Barcelona’s La Masia academy and was loaned to Sampdoria last season. After impressing for the Blucerchiati youth team, he sealed a permanent move last summer and has since made 20 appearances, scoring eight goals.

Sampdoria are currently tenth in Serie A, and Osti has called for an end to the speculation surrounding the youngster’s future.

He said: “At this moment in time, we’d like the player to just concentrate on his game, seeing as we need his goals and his touches.”
