Sampdoria and Atalanta through in Coppa Italia, Palermo crash out

Sampdoria cruised into the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia with a 3-0 win at home to Cagliari.

Ricardo Alvarez opening the scoring for Samp in the 13th minute, before Patrik Schick netted twice in the final 20 minutes.

Serie A high-flyers Atalanta also had no bother getting through, winning 3-0 against Pescara. Cristian Raimondi put the home side in front after seven minutes, with Alberto Grassi doubling the advantage just before the half hour. Aleksandar Pesic put the gloss on the scoreline in the final minutes.

Struggling Palermo were dumped out of the competition on penalties at home by Spezia. The tie finished 0-0, and Palermo played out the final seven minutes of extra-time with 10 men after Roberto Vitiello was shown a second yellow card. The Serie B side advanced by winning 5-4 on spot kicks.
