Much of the game was locked in a 0-0 stalemate until Siena midfielder Francesco Valiani pounced with only twelve minutes left in the game.

But Davide Moscardelli sent the game into extra-time with an 86th minute equaliser.

However, the second division were not to be denied, Zouhair Feddal hitting the winner in added time of the second period of extra-time.

Elsewhere, Bologna’s Serie A rival Parma easily accounted for Varese in a 4-1 victory.

Despite the large scoreline, Parma had to wait until the second-half to dismiss the second division club, adding three goals to their 1-0 advantage after the break.

In other matches, Spezia defeated Pescara 3-0, while Avellino claimed a 2-1 victory over Frosinone.
