Inter Milan chief: Just coincidence Antonio Conte was near club offices

Inter Milan sporting director Beppe Marotta says it was purely coincidental that Antonio Conte was seen walking past the Nerazzurri's headquarters on Thursday.

Conte has been linked with replacing Luciano Spalletti at Inter and he only said "no comment" when asked by BeIN Sport why he was in the vicinity of Inter's HQ in the city centre.

Marotta told RAI ahead of Inter's Coppa Italia loss to Lazio on Thursday evening that he had not been meeting with the former Chelsea manager, and his presence in the city was nothing to do with the Serie A club.

Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte
Antonio Conte has taken the season off so far from coaching since he was sacked by Chelsea last summer.

"Milan's a big city, in addition to being a beautiful one," Marotta said. "I think it's legitimate that a citizen like he can walk around the city centre.

"We've got Spalletti and he's doing well and we're third in Serie A, and still in the running in the Coppa Italia and Europa League. The club has the utmost faith in him."

A 1-0 defeat to Torino last weekend, following on from a goalless draw at home to Sassuolo, has raised speculation about Spalletti's future. The Nerazzurri were eliminated from the Champions League on goal difference behind Tottenham after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to PSV Eindhoven in their final group game.

Conte is out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in the summer, although he told Sky Sport Italia on Wednesday that he is happy taking a break from the game and that he was in Italy to see Atalanta's 3-0 win over Juventus.
