Frank de Boer hails 'incredible' Mauro Icardi in win against Juventus

Inter Milan coach Frank de Boer hailed his side's fighting spirit after they came back from a goal behind to beat Juventus 2-1 and shatter the perfect start of champions Juventus on Sunday.

Stephan Lichtsteiner had given Juve a 66th-minute lead only for Mauro Icardi to equalise within two minutes then set up the winner for Ivan Perisic 10 minutes later.

It was a magnificent response from De Boer's men, who had suffered an embarrassing 2-0 home defeat to Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the Europa League in midweek.

De Boer said in his post-match news conference: "We worked as a team. I have faith in this group, as I've always said. Our journey has just started, but the lads have understood the project.

"We didn't lose our heads when we went a goal down, we started to fight. The team played really well and we battled from the first to the last minute. I think we deserved to win.''

De Boer reserved particular praise for Icardi, whose energy lifted his side and ultimately proved crucial in the two moments that swung the match in Inter's favour.

"Icardi had an incredible game,'' added De Boer. "He's a great player. He fought right until the last minute and was a real example to his teammates.

"That said, everyone deserves praise today. It was a great team effort from the whole side.''

Inter now head into successive games against relatively lowly Empoli and Bologna and De Boer warned his players that failure to produce a similar level of performance in lesser circumstances will mean their win over Juve will count for nothing.

He added: "The lads need to show this spirit in every game, against Empoli and Bologna too, otherwise this will be for nothing. Let's enjoy the win but we will be back in training tomorrow to prepare for the Empoli match.''
