Cristian Chivu interested in Inter Milan return under Frank De Boer

Former Inter Milan defender Cristian Chivu believes there is room for him on Frank De Boer's backroom staff at the Nerazzurri, although he has yet to speak with the Dutchman since he took charge.

De Boer was officially named Inter's new coach on Tuesday, signing a three-year contract and setting his sights on "making life difficult" for Juventus this season after replacing Roberto Mancini.

Chivu, who retired from playing football in 2014, was effectively De Boer's replacement at Ajax when the Dutchman moved to Barcelona in 1999, but the two have forged a friendship since which could see them united at Inter, where Chivu played from 2007 to 2014.

"I've always got Inter in my heart," Chivu told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Frank De Boer's a friend too and if he needs a hand..."

De Boer gave his first news conference on Tuesday in English and the linguistic aspect could be something the Romanian could help him out with, since he also speaks Italian and Dutch.

"I know Frank well, but I've not heard from anybody as yet," Chivu said. "I'm currently on holiday in Spain with my family and I'm happy here, but if Inter were to call... I've always followed Inter, but I prefer not to comment on things happening within the club while I'm on the outside."
