Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini not leaving - Javier Zanetti

Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini is not in the frame to succeed Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, according to the club's vice-president Javier Zanetti.

With the Gunners out of all cup competitions and 11 points off the pace at the top of the Premier League, albeit with a game in hand, it is being increasingly suggested that Wenger's near-20-year reign is drawing to an end this summer.

Mancini, who guided Manchester City to their first league title in 44 years in 2012, having previously won Serie A three times with Inter, is just one of the names under consideration to fill Wenger's boots, but Zanetti says he still has work to do at Inter.

"We've been clear about it as a club and even he wants to stay here," Zanetti told Mediaset television.

"We're now focusing on the end of the season, which is going to be very challenging, but I think we've got all that we need to keep working together."

Mancini still has over a year left on the contract he signed midway through last season, when he came in to replace Walter Mazzarri.

For most of the first half of the current campaign, it looked like the 51-year-old was going to bring success back to the Nerazzurri, who were leading the way thanks to a string of 1-0 wins and just one defeat in their first 13 matches.

They have since dropped to fifth, however, and they now trail league leaders Juventus by 15 points, while the gap to third and a berth in the Champions League next season is five points. Closing that gap is the objective over the remaining eight games of the season and Zanetti says it is still possible.

"We still believe in it," he said. "The game against Roma [1-1 draw last weekend] was certainly a big answer for us, giving us great belief. Now the lads have been doing well for the past month and even if we're five points behind the Giallorossi, I'd say anything can happen in football.

"We can't change what has happened, all we can do is do well in our next eight games."
