Inter's Miranda to miss Milan derby with strained MCL in right knee

Inter centre-back Miranda will miss Sunday's Milan derby after picking up an injury while on international duty, his club confirmed on Thursday.

Miranda injured his knee in Brazil's 4-1 win over the United States on Tuesday and had to be removed after 20 minutes.

And Inter confirmed that his strained right MCL will prevent him from facing AC Milan this weekend.

"Miranda has strained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee and will miss the Milan derby," the club said in a statement. "He'll be reassessed next week."

The 31-year-old joined Inter from Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window and has started the first two league games of season.

Meanwhile, fellow new signing Ivan Perisic said he was excited to make his Inter debut after moving from Wolfsburg.

"I'm glad to be here because Inter are one of the best clubs in the world," Perisic said on Thursday.

"My first game is against AC Milan, too, one of the biggest games in the world.

"I know what the derby means to our fans and we have to give our best to win it, but we also have to try and win every game and not just the derby."

Perisic said he was available to play in whatever role manager Roberto Mancini wants to use him.

"It's up to the coach," he said. "I can play anywhere in midfield and I've played as a striker before, in the hole and out wide. It's up to Mancini to decide, I'll do whatever job he wants me to do."
