Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti hopes to see an "even stronger" Nerazzurri emerge from his sale of the club to Indonesian media magnate Erick Thohir with a deal now imminent.

Speaking outside the offices of his own company in Milan on Tuesday, Moratti said the deal which would sanction the end of his 18-year reign as club president could be struck by the weekend, but that it would be a step forward for the club.

"I hope to see an even stronger Inter because that is what is behind this operation with Thohir," Moratti said. "We could be close to signing the contracts, but until it happens, I can’t make any announcement. Maybe the signatures will arrive within the week. We’ll set a date for an assembly of members in the coming days."

The sale of a majority share of the Serie A club to Thohir is regarded as a foregone conclusion, although shareholder approval is still required before the new-look Inter board can be confirmed. Moratti and his family are still likely to form part of that composition, even if he may not remain as president.

"The number of advisors on the board will depend on the percentage that each member will have of Inter," Moratti explained. "Since there are three new investors, each one of them will have their own representatives and then we, who will have a large slice, will have ours too of course."

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Thohir may not be present when the documents are signed and he may instead seal the deal via fax before arriving in Milan for the next, and the first board meeting of a new era for Inter.
