Kluivert: Sneijder should quit Inter

Former Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert has claimed he has spoken to ‘unhappy’ Dutch star Wesley Sneijder and hopes that he ends his contract with Inter Milan soon.

Sneijder, 28, has fallen out with Inter over new contract negotiations, during which he has reportedly been asked to take a pay cut, and hasn't played since September. Injury and fitness issues have played their part, but technical director Marco Branca said last month that the midfielder wouldn't play again until he made a decision about his future.

While Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni has insisted that the playmaker’s head is not in the right place to ensure he keeps his spot in the first-team right now, Kluivert asserted that Sneijder’s best move would be to cancel his contract and find another club.

"He doesn't feel happy,” Kluivert said. “He has to play, also for the national team. Inter is in his heart... but let's hope he rescinds his contract so he can play."

Meanwhile, former Inter star Luis Figo has expressed his wish for the situation to be resolved quickly so that the team can focus on football.

"Seeing a situation like this is difficult for the team and for the player. Hopefully it will be resolved in the best way possible," he told reporters. "Then in February he can help the team move forward. But all that depends on the choice made by the coach."

Manchester United, PSG and Russian club Anzhi have all been linked with moves for the Dutch midfielder.
