Sergio Busquets misses Spain friendlies due to fractured finger

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has withdrawn from the Spain squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Italy and Romania due to an injury to his finger.

Spain take on Italy in Udine on Thursday and then travel to the Cluj Arena to face Romania on Sunday.

Busquets fractured a finger on his right hand while playing against Eibar on March 6 and sat out Barcelona's next game against Getafe game, but he returned to face Arsenal in the Champions League last week and then played against Villarreal on Sunday.

Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque had included Busquets in the squad, but the player missed training on Monday and Tuesday and has now returned to his club.

"We were aware of his injury but having conducted further tests, and considering these games are friendlies, we have decided it is best for him to leave the squad," Spain's team doctor Oscar Celada said.

Del Bosque has not called up a replacement.

Busquets, who has scored two goals in 82 appearances for La Roja, is expected to feature for Barca when they host Real Madrid in La Liga on April 2.
