England to host Netherlands in March friendly at Wembley

England will play Netherlands in a friendly at Wembley in March, the Football Association has announced.

After easing to Euro 2016 qualification, the FA and England manager Roy Hodgson vowed to line up strong opposition in the friendlies prior to the tournament in France.

The FA had already announced friendlies against Spain, France and Germany, and it has now been confirmed that Netherlands will play England at Wembley on March 29.

It will be the 20th meeting between the Three Lions and the Oranje.

The last encounter took place in February 2012, when Arjen Robben scored a stoppage-time goal to give the Dutch a 3-2 win.

Unlike England, who won all 10 qualifying matches, Netherlands failed to qualify for Euro 2016.

Despite finishing third in the 2014 World Cup, they could only manage a fourth-placed finish in their European Championship qualifying group behind Czech Republic, Iceland and Turkey.

England's next friendly is against Spain in Alicante on Nov. 13. Four days later they host France at Wembley. They travel to Berlin to play Germany on March 26 before hosting the Dutch.
