Argentina win in Washington DC with Messi resting, Uruguay prevail

Ever Banega scored on a deflected shot, Federico Mancuello added a late goal and Argentina beat El Salvador 2-0 in a friendly on Saturday.

Argentina played a lacklustre game without star Lionel Messi, who stayed on the bench with a right foot bruise.

Banega scored with a 54th-minute shot that deflected off defender Nestor Renderos and beat goalkeeper Derby Carrillo. Mancuello sealed the win with a free kick from a tight angle in the 88th minute.

Argentina manager Gerardo Martino started Carlos Tevez for the first time since taking over the team last year, but the Juventus forward was ineffective in attack with Gonzalo Higuain and Angel Di Maria.

Javier Hernandez scored and Jose Corona stopped a penalty as Mexico defeated Ecuador 1-0 in a friendly in Los Angeles.

Hernandez provided the only goal of the game in the 14th minute when he cut inside and curled in a shot from the top of the 18-yard box.

Edinson Cavani scored from the penalty spot as Uruguay managed a scrappy 1-0 win over Morocco.

The hosts had the better chances but their profligacy was punished when Cavani sent Morocco goalkeeper Munir Mohand Mohamedi the wrong way after Diego Rolan was fouled in the area by Nabil Dirar in the 51st minute.

Uruguay played without Luis Suarez, who is set to feature in a charity football match at his former club Liverpool on Sunday.

Substitute Moussa Konate scored twice and Senegal defeated Ghana 2-1.

Konate had only come on five minutes earlier when he brough a ball down with his chest and volleyed in the opener. He scored his second 10 minutes later.

Richmond Boakye headed in a late consolation goal for Ghana.

Humam Tariq scored the winner as Iraq defeated DR Congo 2-1 in the United Arab Emirates.

Ahmad Ibrahim Khalaf gave Iraq the lead after five minutes by heading home a corner kick, but Paul-Jose Mpoku equalised from the penalty spot on his international debut.

Jonathan Ayite scored late on to help Togo earn a 1-1 draw at Mauritius, Andy Sophie scoring for the hosts.

Jaimes McKee's ninth-minute goal was enough for Hong Kong to beat Guam 1-0.
