FC Dallas rookie Tesho Akindele declines Canada invite

As the Major League Soccer campaign nears a close it is time to vote for this year's MLS Rookie of the Year, and FC Dallas' Tesho Akindele's puts his name in the ring with this great video.

FC Dallas rookie Tesho Akindele declined an invitation to join the Canada national team for their training camp next week.

Canada confirmed Akindele's decision as they announced their squad to face Panama in a friendly on Nov. 18.

Akindele, 22, was born in Canada but grew up in Colorado and played Division II college soccer for Colorado School of Mines. He has yet to appear for either the Canadian or American national teams, though he did play in a friendly for the Canada under-17 national team as a teenager.

Akindele would be free to join the United States training camp in London this month, but a source told ESPN FC that a call-up to Jurgen Klinsmann's side could depend on how FC Dallas fares in the MLS Cup playoffs.

Tesho Akindele has scored six goals for FC Dallas since July 4.
Tesho Akindele could turn his successful debut MLS season into a United States call-up.

Dallas earned a 1-1 draw in their home leg of the Western Conference semifinals against the Sounders, with the second leg set for Monday night in Seattle.

However, it's also possible that Klinsmann may not want to wait that long to announce his squad that will face Colombia in London on Nov. 14 and Republic of Ireland in Dublin four days later.

Should FC Dallas advance in the playoffs, they would not play again until Nov. 23, giving time for Akindele to play for both teams, though FC Dallas may be unwilling to see their promising forward so busy during such a crucial period for the club.

After FC Dallas selected him with the sixth pick in this year's MLS SuperDraft, Akindele scored seven goals in the MLS regular season, tying him with Chicago's Harrison Shipp for the most by a rookie this season.

He also scored FC Dallas' opener in their knockout round victory over Vancouver.

A U.S. soccer spokesperson declined to comment on a potential call-up for Akindele, saying, "As per regular team policy, we don't publish the preliminary roster."
