U.S. Soccer confirms Ireland friendly

The ESPN FC crew are joined by Sporting KC's Matt Besler to discuss the success of preseason friendlies and continued growth of the MLS.

The United States will face the Republic of Ireland in a friendly in Dublin on Nov. 18, US Soccer confirmed on Tuesday.

Irish media had reported the friendly nearly a month earlier, with the Irish FA confirming on Monday the match set for the Aviva Stadium.

Ireland will be coming off a Euro 2016 qualifying against Scotland four days earlier.

This will be the ninth time Ireland and the United States have met and the first time since April 2002, when Ireland won 2-1.

The match will be the last friendly for the U.S. on the 2014 calendar, with a trip to Czech Republic confirmed for Sept. 3 and reported home matches planned against Colombia on Sept. 9 and Ecuador in October.

"We are absolutely thrilled to finish our work in 2014 with a game against Ireland," said U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann in a statement. "They are consistently a difficult team to play against, and we welcome these types of challenges as we continue to move our team forward towards the Gold Cup next year."
