Brazil recall Liverpool's Lucas Leiva
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, defender Dede and goalkeeper Victor were the new names added to Brazil's squad by coach Luis Felipe Scolari on Thursday for the Selecao's upcoming friendlies.
Victor got called up to fill in for QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar, who underwent surgery on Wednesday after breaking a finger during a training session earlier this month. In addition to Victor, Scolari also called on shot-stopper Diego Cavalieri, who missed the friendlies against Australia and Portugal.
Lucas returns to the Selecao for the first time since 2011, filling in for Fernando, who joined Shakhtar Donetsk from Gremio this summer. Dede, meanwhile, was called upon in light of the absent Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva, who injured his thigh against Monaco last weekend.
Ronaldinho was not, however, included in Scolari's latest squad.
Brazil take on South Korea in Seoul on October 12 before facing Zambia in Beijing three days later. According to El Folha de Sao Paolo, Brazil will play two more friendlies in 2013 on two currently open dates in November with one more open date left in March of 2014.
A group of Brazil-based footballers including Alexandre Pato, Juninho and Luis Fabiano voiced their concern Wednesday about the rigours of the domestic club schedule during the build-up to the 2014 World Cup.
