Indian Super League (ISL) champions ATK have parted ways with coach Teddy Sheringham, a day ahead of a home match against Chennaiyin FC on Thursday.

"ATK Team management would like to thank Teddy Sheringham for his services towards ISL Season 4. We wish him all the very best for his future endeavours. Ashley Westwood, will be the interim head coach," the club's media release said on Wednesday.

Under former England striker Sheringham, ATK were able to win only three of their first 10 games this season, and a 3-0 loss away to FC Pune City in their last game on January 20 was among the four defeats this season. With 12 points from 10 matches, they stand in eighth position in the 10-team league, but trail fifth-placed Jamshedpur FC, who have played 11 matches, by just four points.

Sheringham becomes the third coach to have been sacked in mid-season - Rene Meulensteen of Kerala Blasters was replaced by David James, whose previous association with the 2014 runners-up as player-coach that season. NorthEast United also let go of Portuguese coach Joao de Deus earlier in January, and brought in former Chelsea manager Avram Grant as technical adviser, with former East Bengal coach Eelco Schattorie as assistant coach.
