Lajong halt Churchill's winning streak; Chennai shock East Bengal

Shillong Lajong halted Churchill Brother's three-match winning streak, as the teams played out a goalless draw at the Tilak Maidan.

Both goalkeepers stole the limelight, with Vishal Kaith and Naveen Kumar pulling off several smart saves. Kaith was later named the Player of the Match.

Churchill's striker Anthony Wolfe came the closest to scoring in the first half, as his swerving ground shot hit the far post, and Kaith kept out the rebound from Ghanefo Kromah.

Lajong, mostly in the back foot during the first half, ventured forward more in the second period, but were unable to snatch a winner, as Naveen did well to deny Dipanda in the 54th minute.

The draw left Lajong at fourth in the table with 20 points, while Churchill remain at sixth, with 16.

In the day's second game, East Bengal slipped further in the table after losing 1-2 to ninth placed Chennai City in Chennai. East Bengal are now second in the table with 27 points.

Willis Deon Plaza put the visitors in front in the 42nd minute when he nodded in a cross from Rahul Bheke. However, Chennai drew level through Nanda Kumar in the 57th minute and Prasanth K scored the winner in injury time.
