Neil McDonald named as assistant to Hull City manager Mike Phelan

Hull City have announced the appointment of Neil McDonald as assistant to manager Mike Phelan.

McDonald, whose coaching career has encompassed Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United, and he has also managed both Carlisle United and Blackpool.

Phelan told Hull's official website: "I'm pleased to welcome Neil to the club and look forward to working with him.

"Neil brings a wealth of football experience, which will be of huge importance as the season progresses."

Earlier this month, Phelan signed a deal to become the permanent manager of Hull after 83 days as caretaker boss.

Phelan took over after the departure of former manager Steve Bruce in the summer and his first match in full-time charge was a 6-1 demolition at Bournemouth.
