Hull hero Eldin Jakupovic: Save from Arsenal's Joel Campbell was lucky

Hull City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic admitted luck was on his side as his heroics helped the Championship side to a goalless draw at Arsenal in the FA Cup's fifth round.

Jakupovic, 31, made 11 saves to keep Arsenal at bay and force a replay at the KC Stadium.

Arsenal came closest when Jakupovic touched Joel Campbell's free kick onto the post, and the keeper -- who has only been used in cup games so far this season -- said there had been an element of fortune about his save.

"What can I say? It was a great free kick to be fair," he told BT Sport. "I thought he was going to shoot over the bar and I made a step to the left so I was, to be fair, lucky to catch the ball, but finally I touched it with my fingers, the ball went onto the post and I was just happy that the ball wasn't in."

Nonetheless, the keeper, who made one international appearance for Switzerland eight years ago, needed to be at his very best as he consistently denied the likes of Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez.

"We knew the beginning it would be a difficult game, we would be just defending, and finally we took the 0-0," he said after a game in which manager Steve Bruce had made 10 changes.

Bruce, whose Hull side lost 3-2 to Arsenal in the 2014 FA Cup final, praised Jakupovic's performance after the game, telling BT Sport: "He's made some great saves.

"It's been frustrating for him because he's never really had a crack at playing regularly and it's difficult for him being a No. 2, yet he's come in and produced some great saves, and obviously we're delighted for him as there's been a lot of dark moments over the last couple of years in particular with him not playing, but days like today, it's great for somebody like him."

Bruce was less happy about the fixture congestion the replay will cause as he seeks to guide the Tigers back into the top flight.

"I don't know when we're going to play it," he said. "I said before the game about the fixture pile-up we've got -- and that's added to it.

"But the way the team went about their jobs, they deserve a replay, because of their effort and determination. And of course, we've rode our luck at times, which you have to do, but overall, the spirit of them and the 100 percent effort they gave was there for all to see."

He added: "We keep drawing them, but let's hope we get the rub of the green and can make it a good cup tie at our place and see what we can do."

Bruce also praised 16-year-old defender Josh Tymon, who played at the Emirates despite only having made his professional debut last month.

"Sixteen years old and he's got a fantastic future ahead of him," the former Manchester United defender said. "Of course, he's got a lot of learning to do but it's great to see somebody from the academy pull on the shirt and let's hope there's more to come."
