Steve Bruce set for showdown talks with Hull chairman over future

Steve Bruce admits that his future at Hull City is on the line as he prepares for showdown talks with the club's chairman Assem Allam on Thursday.

Bruce led Hull back into the Premier League in 2012 in his debut season in charge at the KC Stadium, with the Tigers staying up and achieving an FA Cup runners-up finish the following year.

But Hull struggled last season despite a record summer outlay, and were eventually relegated to the Championship.

Former Manchester United defender Bruce agreed a new contract with Hull in March, but with Tom Ince sold to Derby and no new players recruited so far this summer, the manager says he may walk away from the club.

"I would love the chance to bring the club back to the top flight, and all I ask is that we have a squad that's capable of mounting a challenge," Bruce said.

"I'm hoping that on Thursday we can all sit down and navigate a plan to get us back to where we all want to be. If that's the case then I'll be perfectly happy.

"If not, then I'll ask the question of exactly what they want to do. If I don't think we have a chance of getting back up I would consider my position.

"But I still believe when we have the meeting on Thursday I will be given a chance to rebuild this side. We have three weeks and a lot can be done in three weeks. I'm confident this meeting on Thursday will be beneficial to everyone."
