Sagbo and Assou-Ekotto charged by FA

The Football Association have charged Hull striker Yannick Sagbo and QPR loanee Benoit Assou-Ekotto with improper conduct for social media posts relating to the 'quenelle', while Samir Nasri and Mamadou Sakho have escaped punishment.

Nicolas Anelka celebrates after scoring at West Ham with a controversial 'quenelle' gesture, which is alleged to be anti-Semitic.
Nicolas Anelka's gesture led to a five-match ban and West Brom terminating his contract in March.

In a statement released by the FA, the organisation confirmed it has issued Manchester City midfielder Nasri with a formal warning, while Liverpool defender Sakho has been reminded of his responsibilities as a participant.

The controversial salute came to the fore when West Brom forward Nicolas Anelka made the arm gesture when celebrating against West Ham on Dec. 28.

An independent regulatory commission last month handed down a five-match ban to the former France international after finding it "did contain a reference to anti-Semitism'', in that it is strongly associated with his friend, the French comedian Dieudonne M'bala M'bala, who has been convicted of anti-Semitic crimes seven times.

West Brom sacked Anelka for "gross misconduct'' on March 14 -- just hours after he took to Twitter claiming he had decided to terminate his contract -- once it was confirmed neither he nor the FA would contest the ban.

Both players have until April 8 2014 to respond to the charges.
