Hull bring in Figueroa

Hull have snapped up defender Maynor Figueroa on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Wigan.

Maynor Figueroa joined Wigan in 2008

Figueroa, 30, will be reunited with Tigers manager Steve Bruce, who first brought the player to the Latics in 2008, during his time in charge of the club.

The Honduras international, who has penned a two-year deal with Hull, says he is thrilled to be embarking on a new challenge and cannot wait to work with Bruce once again.

"When the team were playing the final few games in the Championship, I paid close attention to the results because I wanted Steve Bruce to achieve promotion," he said.

"I was happy for him to earn the success. He is a great manager and I'm looking forward to working with him again. I'm happy to be here and to be a part of the club. It is a big challenge for me, but it's certainly one I'm looking forward to."

Figueroa revealed that he had been considering moving to the KC Stadium ever since he saw Hull earn promotion to the Premier League on the final day of last season against Cardiff.

He said: "I watched the Cardiff game and after the final whistle I turned to my wife and said 'Hull could be an option for me next year'."

Figueroa is Hull's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of George Boyd, whose loan move from Peterborough was made permanent last month.

Bruce, who has a reported transfer budget of around £15million, will now look to bring in a goalkeeper and a centre-forward to bolster his side’s chances of beating the drop next season.

According to Press Association Sport, Hull have so far been unable to agree a fee with Leicester for 'keeper Kasper Schmeichel, while Bruce is also considering the likes of Allan McGregor, Ross Turnbull and Costel Pantilimon.

Celtic striker Gary Hooper, meanwhile, is a reported transfer target up front for the Tigers.
