BOGOTA, Colombia -- Former Colombia midfielder Freddy Rincon will join the coaching staff of Jorge Luis Pinto for the Honduras national team pending a financial agreement with the Honduras football federation, according to a report.

"There's a good chance, we have been in talks and only the economic terms need to be resolved," Rincon, who was coached by Pinto at Santa Fe (Bogota) in 1986-87, told Radio Caracol. "I would be proud to work with him. I can learn a lot."

Pinto, who managed Costa Rica at the World Cup in 2014, spent the end of the year in Colombia with family and traveled on Monday to Tegucigalpa to meet with Honduras federation officials and outline a plan that included having Rincon as his assistant.

"Freddy has broad football knowledge and the experience of three World Cups [1990-94-98]," said Pinto. "He has played at an elite level in Brazil with Corinthians, Palmeiras and Santos. His experience can help us a lot."

Rincon, 48, scored 17 goals in 84 caps and was part of Colombia's golden era of football along with Carlos "Pibe" Valderrama. Rincon played one season with Real Madrid and has coached youth clubs in Brazil and Colombia.

Two additional qualifying spots were added to the Centenary Copa America 2016, meaning Honduras could potentially play in the tournament based on its 2015 Gold Cup qualifying results vs. French Guiana on March 25 and March 29.
