Sweden legend Larsson quits over verbal abuse

Former Barcelona, Manchester United and Celtic striker Henrik Larsson has quit as manager of Swedish side Helsingborg two months after taking charge after receiving verbal abuse from the team's own fans, the club said in a statement on Friday.

Helsingborg lost to lower league opposition in the Swedish Cup on Thursday, after which Larsson was verbally abused by supporters.

"It is extremely sad that it has come to this," club chairman Krister Azelius said. We take verbal abuse very serious and will get to the bottom of this."

Larsson made his senior debut at Helsingborg before going on to win the Scottish Premiership, the Premier League and La Liga.

Helsingborg are 12th in the Allsvenska, Sweden's first tier, just above the relegation places.

Larsson, dubbed the King of Kings by Celtic fans, scored 242 goals in 315 games for the Scottish side and was top scorer in the league for five of the six seasons he took part.

He also won the Champions League and a La Liga title with Barcelona.
