Diouf rejects second Hannover offer

Hannover forward Mame Diouf has turned down a second contract offer from his club and could be set for a return to the Premier League, according to reports in the German media.

Diouf, 25, is contracted to the Lower Saxony side, who are struggling in their bid to return to Europe this season, until 2014.

The club have been attempting to tie down the former Manchester United man for several weeks, however, the Senegal international is believed to have turned down a second offer, which would have put him on a salary of €2 million a year.

“The talks have shown that we will not be extending the contract anytime soon,” Hannover president Martin Kind told Bild.

Despite Diouf’s agent Jim Solbakken flying in from Norway, the player never had any intentions of extending his stay at the club just yet.

“There is no need to rush. He has a contract until the summer of 2014. And what happens after that? We shall wait and see,” Solbakken told Sky Sports News on Monday.

Following the unsuccessful talks, Hannover now believe Diouf could be eyeing an exit and are preparing themselves for offers.

The forward has recently been linked with Borussia Dortmund, where he could replace the sought-after Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowski, while Bild believe Diouf could return to the Premier League.

“Not only are Fulham interested,” the paper claims.
