Ex-Mexico star Nery Castillo retires, opens store for anglers in Greece

Former Mexico international Nery Castillo has announced his retirement from the sport to take on a new venture, Nery's Fishing, a store in Greece dedicated to anglers.

Castillo, 32, who in 2007 helped Mexico to a runner-up Gold Cup finish as well as third place in the Copa America, last played football in 2014 for Rayo Vallecano. During his time with Shakhtar Donetsk from 2007-11, he played on loan at Manchester City as well as with Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire.

The winger's most successful seasons were spent in Greece from 2000-07 with Olympiakos, where he helped the team to three straight league titles.

In a 2013 interview with ESPN Deportes, Castillo admitted that the death of both his parents to cancer and his transfer to chilly Ukraine were challenges he was not able to overcome. He said that he suffered from depression for years.
