Greek league set to resume without fans for two weeks

ATHENS, Greece -- The Greek Super League will resume this weekend after a one-week suspension because of violence at stadiums, but all top-flight matches will be played without fans for the next two weeks.

Stavros Kontonis, a deputy minister for sport, announced the decision on Wednesday, saying clubs had failed to fully comply with government demands to improve stadium security. He added that the situation would be reviewed next week.

Matches were halted last week for the third time this season after violence at a league match between archrivals Olympiakos and Panathinaikos. This was followed by a boardroom brawl between officials of the two clubs during a meeting arranged by Greek league organisers.

Kontonis said he would meet in Nyon, Switzerland, on Monday with UEFA president Michel Platini.
