Kotoko's rise continues as Hearts' unbeaten run ends

Asante Kotoko's climb up the Ghana Premier League table continued after Wednesday's fixtures as they beat Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0 in Cape Coast thanks to Baba Mahama's 30th-minute strike.

The Porcupine Warriors are now a point behind Hearts of Oak in fourth place and eight points behind leaders WAFA.

The win continues the club's change in fortune since Steve Pollack took over as coach. They have now gone six games unbeaten under him with three wins in that period, more than they had managed in their previous ten games.

Kotoko will also be boosted by Hearts of Oak's defeat by Ashanti Gold in Accra.

Daniel Dozar struck in the first half to end the Phobians' unbeaten home run of nine games.

The win piles further pressure on coach Frank Nuttal but it represents major relief for Charles Akonnor, as Ashgold's recent form has lifted them out of the relegation zone. Elsewhere in the league, WAFA continue to set the pace after yet another win at home, this time against Elmina Sharks. Centre-back Musa Nuhu with the crucial goal for the leaders four minutes from time in Sogakope.

It takes them up to 41 points and stretches their remarkable unbeaten home record to 39 games and 30 wins.

Aduana Stars will be hoping WAFA falter at some point after keeping the pressure on them with a 1-0 win over Great Olympics via Bright Nsiah's 45th-minute goal in Dormaa. They are now three points behind WAFA.

The biggest winners in matchday 20 were perhaps Liberty Professionals who beat Bolga All Stars 3-0 in Dansoman.

Medeama's home game against Berekum Chelsea will be played on Thursday after it was rained off on Wednesday.
