Kotoko decline escalates as WAFA go nine clear in Ghana

WAFA have stretched their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League to three points after beating Liberty Professionals 2-1 for a sixth straight win in a game watched by new Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah.

Togo international Komla Agbegniadan scored once in each half in Sogakope to render Samuel Sarfo's goal for Liberty a mere consolation.

The result keeps WAFA top of the table and gives them a three-point advantage over Aduana Stars, who had to settle for 1-1 draw against Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Zakaria Mumuni gave Aduana a first-half lead; Kotoko then missed a penalty when Kwame Boateng's effort was saved by Joseph Addo before Abas Mohammed (pictured) equalised for them in the second half.

The result continues a series of poor results for Kotoko, who are now without a win in six games and a staggering nine points behind leaders WAFA in fifth place.

Draws was the theme of the day in the Ghana Premier League with five of the eight games ending with no winners. That included a six-goal thriller in Tamale, where Bolga All Stars pegged Hearts of Oak back twice to share the spoils in a 3-3 draw.

Alhassan Rashid scored twice for All Stars, including the goal that cancelled out Vincent Atinga's opener for the Phobiabs before Thomas Abbey put them in front again. Again All Stars fought back to draw level before taking the lead and then losing it again.

Accra Great Olympics were one of the few sides to lose, going down 1-2 away at Tema Youth. Tom Strand's arrival us clearly yet to have the desired.
