Avram Grant 'will take over as Ghana national coach on Thursday'

The Ghana Football Association has said ex-Chelsea boss Avram Grant will become their new national team coach on Thursday, AFP has reported.

The Association reportedly confirmed that Grant, who led Chelsea to the Champions League final in 2008, would sign a contract to succeed the axed Kwesi Appiah after "governmental agreement" had been reached.

Former Israel coach Grant, who also worked for Portsmouth and West Ham during his time in the UK, moves to Ghana from Thai club BEC Tero Sasana, where he is technical director.

He will mastermind the Ghana side at the African Nations Cup, which begins in January.

Earlier this month, the GFA told the BBC it had expected to have a deal in place for him to take over as the national team's coach after their final African Nations Cup qualifier against Togo, a 3-1 win on Nov. 19.
