Ghana's Kevin-Prince Boateng & Fatau Dauda pay tribute to Mesut Ozil

Ghana internationals Fatau Dauda and Kevin-Prince Boateng have taken to social media to pay tribute to Mesut Ozil following his retirement from Germany duty.

The 29-year-old announced his international departure on Sunday, citing racism in the aftermath of the 2014 champions' early World Cup exit.

He also criticised federation president Reinhard Grindel, and outlined tensions concerning his Turkish roots and team selection decisions during this summer's tournament in Russia as the reasons for his retirement.

The Arsenal playmaker was criticised in Germany for his meeting with Turkish president Recep Erdogan in May during a visit to London.

Berlin-born Prince, who recently signed for Italian side Sassuolo, took to Instagram to pay his tribute to Ozil.

"One of the best I've played against," the midfielder wrote on his @prince17 handle. "Danke, Mister Assist."

31-year-old Boateng featured alongside Ozil in Germany's U-21 team, before opting to represent Ghana at senior level.

Black Stars goalkeeper Dauda opted to focus on the reasons for Ozil's exit in an Instagram post that decried the ongoing problems of racism in football.

The stopper began by quoting a section of the extensive letter Ozil posted on Sunday, explaining his international retirement, before adding: "Stand for Ozil and say no to racism.

"One world, one people."

Ozil ends his international career with 92 caps, 23 goals and 40 assists, and was also a member of the squad that won the World Cup in 2014.
