Joachim Low unhappy with Germany fans' jeering of Timo Werner

Germany coach Joachim Low has criticised supporters for their jeering of RB Leipzig attacker Timo Werner in Saturday's 7-0 World Cup qualifying win over San Marino.

Werner, 21, was booed and whistled by Germany fans throughout after coming off the bench 10 minutes into the second half of his side's victory.

The Leipzig man has faced similar treatment among supporters in Germany ever since he dived to win a penalty for his club in December's win over Schalke.

"There was a dive once, he made a mistake, and he admitted he was wrong," Low told Bild. "But we are talking about a very young player here.

"Someone who plays for the national team, is only at the start of his career and who has scored 21 goals in one season in the Bundesliga should not be jeered and whistled. That is simply not OK."

Werner himself says he is being treated unfairly by fans and thinks that may be down to him playing for Leipzig -- a hugely unpopular club in Germany due to their links with soft drink giants Red Bull.

"I do not know what all the fuss is about," Werner said. "We have seen people dive for years. People are making a big thing out of it just because I play for RB Leipzig."
