Germany's Mats Hummels available but Manuel Neuer to miss out vs. Italy

Mats Hummels has resumed team training ahead of Germany's meeting with Italy in Munich on Tuesday night.

In the 3-2 defeat to England on Saturday, centre-back Hummels stayed in the dressing room at half-time and later said that he was withdrawn as a precautionary measure after muscular problems in the first 45 minutes of the friendly.

The Borussia Dortmund captain later said on ZDF Sportstudio that he needed "25 to 30 injections," but on Monday he resumed team training with the national team as -- following a short Easter break -- they began their preparations for their meeting with Italy at the Allianz Arena.

Unlike Hummels, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer did not return to the team and will miss the Italy match with a stomach illness, the DFB said on its website.

This leaves head coach Joachim Low with three keepers to pick from for the starting XI on Tuesday.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona's Champions League shot-stopper, is the only capped keeper, whereas both Paris Saint-Germain's Kevin Trapp and Bayer Leverkusen's Bernd Leno have so far only featured for the Germany under-21.

Leno and Trapp had been in the squad for Germany's planned friendly against Netherlands back in November, and, before the game was cancelled because of the serious threat of an attack at the stadium, were set to share duties between the posts, and play for one half each.

Despite Hummels return to training, Low could rest the Dortmund defender ahead of crucial weeks for his club, who are competing for three trophies in the final two months of the season.

According to Sport1, Low has already decided to not start Bayern Munich attacker Thomas Muller, who played for 75 minutes in Germany's defeat to England in Berlin last Saturday.

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos and Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil are also candidates to be rested against Italy.

However, Bayern's Mario Gotze is set to win his 50th cap for Germany and start at the Allianz Arena.

"I've talked to him," midfielder Sami Khedira said during a news conference in Munich on Monday. "It's not like he doubts himself. He mulls over his future and what he wants and really needs."
