Germany boss Joachim Low: Leroy Sane has bright international future

Germany coach Joachim Low has hailed Schalke youngster Leroy Sane ahead of a possible international debut against France on Friday.

Sane, the 19-year-old son of former Bundesliga player Souleyman Sane, has become one of the Royal Blues' key players this season despite his young age.

The midfielder has scored five goals and registered a further four assists in 19 competitive matches for Schalke this term, earning himself a first call-up to the Germany squad in the process.

"He has an incredible awareness of space and he can put his pace to good use," Low told reporters at Thursday's prematch news conference. "His runs are subtle, and despite only being 19, he has shown a lot of promise and has convinced us.

"He is a player with a special gift, he is a cunning player with a lot of technical ability. He can make the leap to the senior team soon."

Sane will only be part of the senior squad for the friendly against France, before then joining up with Germany's under-21s for next week's game in Poland.

With Marco Reus and Mario Gotze missing the France clash through injury, and Andre Schurrle struggling for form, Sane could find himself starting on Friday night, with Low saying that while some positions "are set in stone," for others "there a lot of options."

While the Germany squad have been together since Monday, they only trained once at home before leaving for France on Thursday due to marketing obligations.

"I need to think and we will see what we can bring to the table after the final training session," Low said.

All 24 players trained again on Thursday night, and Low said afterwards that Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira will play a part against France.

"He has made a good impression in training and I feel like he is nearing the form he once had," Low said of Khedira, who has been struggling with injuries since the 2014 World Cup.

"He thrives on having a presence in midfield, winning 50-50s and playing forward once he's won the ball. He has shown how much quality he has."

Mario Gomez, another player returning to the squad, should also get some playing time against France after Low watched him at Besiktas earlier this season.

"I saw Mario in Turkey and he has had a big impact there, scoring several goals in the league," Low said. "He has been unbelievably motivated since the World Cup to be able to go to Euro 2016."
