Germany's Lukas Podolski retiring from internationals after Euro 2016

Inter Milan striker Lukas Podolski has said he'll retire from international competition after the 2016 European Championships.

Podolski, who won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with Germany, told Deutscher Fussball-Bund that he wants to add a Euro trophy to his list of titles before ending his career with the national team.

"Currently I see it like this," said the striker. "The European Championships will be my last major tournament."

On loan from Arsenal, Podolski is just beginning his career as an Inter player and is eager to show German national team manager Joachim Low that he should still be a fixture on the squad for qualifiers and the 2016 tournament.

"My first impressions of Milan are completely positive and I have been really well-received," said Podolski. "Even though it is never easy to settle into new surroundings, I can be completely satisfied with my performance in my first few matches. I am convinced that I can still help the team."

Although Podolski was a popular player with Arsenal supporters, he wasn't featuring regularly in manager Arsene Wenger's lineup.

Germany's next Euro qualifier is on March 29, vs. Georgia.
