'Mueller focused despite Bayern issue'

Germany coach Joachim Loew insists Thomas Mueller will not be distracted by uncertainty over his future with Bayern Munich.

Mueller 24, sparked speculation he could leave the German champions this week when he told German magazine Stern he would be seeking talks with the club to determine whether he would play an "integral part of the future Bayern XI ahead of the new season."

The attacking midfielder has been at Bayern for 14 years and, although he recently stressed that he was happy at the club, there were suggestions during the season he was frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities under Pep Guardiola and he added in the Stern interview: "I am no longer the guy who is happy just playing a good role here and there and keeping his mouth shut so that everyone can do with me whatever they want."

Following the remarks, Bild reported that Manchester United, who had already approached Bayern about the player last month, remained keen on a transfer but were informed that the Germany international was not for sale. The tabloid added that Mueller, who is under contract for another three years, had also been informed he would not be permitted to leave.

Loew, whose Germany squad have already had to contend with a host of distractions in the build-up to the World Cup, is confident that Mueller will be able to set aside his club concerns and focus solely on Brazil.

"He's very cool in those things," Loew told a news conference ahead of the friendly with Armenia on Friday. "It's absolutely no problem for him.

"I am not interested in it either. He is still under contract until 2017 and, for me, that says enough in itself. He has played in nearly every match [for Bayern] -- even Philipp Lahm was benched for a few games. At Bayern, you can't always play.

"But he is a role model for the club and I believe that Bayern want to keep him even beyond 2017 for what it's worth. Both sides know what they have in one another."
