DFB reschedules Super Cup

The German Football League has announced that the DFL-Super Cup clash between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund has been rescheduled for August 13.

The Super Cup, the traditional curtain-raiser between the league and cup winners, was originally set to take place on Saturday August 9 but will now take place the following Wednesday.

"That way especially all the players at the World Cup will have more time to recharge their batteries," DFL executive Andreas Rettig told the official Bundesliga website.

The new date also allows Bayern, who secured both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal this season, time to recuperate after their U.S. tour, which concludes with a game against the MLS All-Stars on August 7.

Dortmund, who finished runners-up in both competitions, are now set to play Liverpool at Anfield on August 10, a source has confirmed to ESPN FC.

The Supercup has been contested by Bayern and Dortmund for the last three seasons. BVB won 4-2 at the Westfalenstadion last year as Pep Guardiola took charge of his first competitive game with Bayern.

The match is set to see Robert Lewandowski face Dortmund for the first time after agreeing a summer transfer to Bayern, with BVB looking to make amends for the DFB-Pokal final, which Guardiola's side won 2-0 after Mats Hummels was controversially denied a goal.
