Alejandro Moreno and Shaka Hislop explain why Bayern Munich's lack of athleticism at the back will give them problems this season.

England winger Jadon Sancho starred for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday to help his side beat rivals Bayern Munich 2-0 to win their sixth DFL Super Cup and claim early bragging rights in the curtain raiser for the German Bundesliga.

The teenager was the key man, assisting one goal and scoring the other in front of the Dortmund faithful against a Bayern side looking a little lost without departed greats Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

Lucien Favre's side tailed off in last season's title challenge,...

Bayern Munich's David Alaba escapes knee ligament damage

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba suffered heavy bruising rather than knee ligament damage during the weekend's 5-0 German Super Cup win over Eintracht Frankfurt, the club have said.

With Bayern 4-0 up thanks to a Robert Lewandowski hat trick and a goal from Kingsley Coman, Alaba tangled with Eintracht's Danny da Costa and had to leave the pitch after prolonged treatment.

Bayern, who had already used all their substitutes, played the final 15 minutes with 10 men but added a fifth goal through Thiago...

Hat-trick hero Robert Lewandowski paces Bayern to blowout German Cup victory

Bayern Munich cruised to a third consecutive DFL Super Cup success with a comfortable 5-0 win in Niko Kovac's first game in charge against his former club Eintracht Frankfurt. Goals from Thiago Alcantara, substitute Kingsley Coman and a clinical Robert Lewandowski hat trick lifted the German champions to their first trophy of the season.

Anger over Real Madrid loss can fuel Bayern Munich UCL bid - Ancelotti

Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti has told Gazzetta dello Sport he wants his players to use the "anger" of last season's controversial defeat to Real Madrid as motivation to win the Champions League.

Bayern lost 4-2 in extra time at the Bernabeu to go out 6-3 on aggregate in the quarterfinals but were infuriated by several key decisions by referee Viktor Kassai.

"If there had been VAR [video assistant referees], we would not have lost in Madrid and we would not have been knocked out of the Champions...

Technical fault spoils Germany's first use of VAR at Super Cup

German football's first competitive use of video assistant referees (VAR) failed due to a technical fault on Saturday when a debatable goal was awarded in the German Super Cup between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Robert Lewandowski scored for Bayern to level the game at 1-1 but the goal may have been offside following Sebastian Rudy's ball over the Dortmund defence.

Referee Felix Zwayer consulted VAR Tobias Stieler, who had to make a decision without all the technical tools he should have...
