Dortmund beat Hoffenheim to reach DFB-Pokal semifinals, Wolfsburg win

Borussia Dortmund came from behind to beat Hoffenheim 3-2 after extra time and book their place in the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal.

Neven Subotic had fired Dortmund ahead on 19 minutes when he connected with a corner to steer the ball into the net, but the lead was cancelled out moments later when Kevin Volland volleyed home a corner at the other end.

Hoffenheim were 2-1 up soon afterwards when Subotic's error allowed Roberto Firmino to run clean through on goal and chip Mitchell Langerak.

Borussia Dortmund celebrate taking the lead through Sebastian Kehl's stunning strike.

Dortmund were back on level terms just before the hour mark, though, when Erik Durm's cross from the right found Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who powered in a header.

There were chances for both teams to snatch a winner inside 90 minutes, with Subotic passing up a good chance, but the match at the Westfalenstadion went to extra time.

It took until the 108th minute for Dortmund to find a winner, and it came from an unlikely source, with the veteran Sebastian Kehl producing a wonderful strike from distance to make it 3-2, and BVB withstood some late pressure from the visitors to progress.

Wolfsburg, meanwhile, claimed a 1-0 home win over Freiburg in their quarterfinal.

Portuguese midfielder Vieirinha was denied the opener for the hosts shortly before the interval when goalkeeper Roman Burki tipped his effort onto the bar.

The home side eventually took the lead in the 72nd minute courtesy of a Ricardo Rodriguez penalty after Daniel Caligiuri was felled by Julian Schuster.

Rodriguez drilled the spot kick past his Switzerland teammate Roman Buerki in the Freiburg goal.

Rodriguez also made a vital late clearance when he blocked a shot by Freiburg Mike Frantz that was heading for an empty net, while Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio palmed striker Maximilian Philipp's goalbound effort wide.

On Wednesday, Arminia Bielefeld will host Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich will travel to Bayer Leverkusen in the competition's remaining quarterfinal clashes.
