Bayern could face Dortmund in final

The DFB-Pokal draw has left Germany dreaming of a replay of the 2013 Champions League final in Berlin.

Bayern smash five past Hamburg

Title holders Bayern Munich will entertain second division side Kaiserslautern at home, while Borussia Dortmund play league rivals Wolfsburg at the Westfalenstadion in the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal.

Bayern enjoyed an easy win over Hamburg on Wednesday night as they recorded a 5-0 triumph and will face Kaiserslautern in the next round after they caused a major upset by knocking out Bayer Leverkusen.

The draw, made by Paralympic athlete Kirsten Bruhn, took place in Hamburg’s stadium, after the club's meeting with Bayern.

Speaking on German TV station ARD, Kaiserslautern chief Stefan Kuntz said: "Typical: Women and football. Nice! We are delighted. Thank you very much."

“Not my fault,” Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer added.

There was more good news for Bayern in Hamburg, as Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger returned to the pitch more than three months after playing his last game for the Treble holders against Viktoria Plzen in Champions League.

Schweinsteiger underwent a second surgery to his ankle in November and suffered a setback on his way to the comeback when picking up a minor knee injury during Bayern’s winter training camp in Qatar.

The midfielder replaced captain Philipp Lahm in the 65th minute, and Bayern fans applauded his touch to the ball. Schweinsteiger later said: “It felt nice to be welcomed liked that. And to win like that made it even nicer.”

Bayern’s 2013 Champions League final opponents Dortmund will take on the ambitious Wolfsburg at the Westfalenstadion, with the ties to be played on April 15 and April 16.

Wolfsburg beat Hoffenheim 3-2 in front of only 13,347 spectators at Rhein-Neckar Arena -- Hoffenheim have now participated in six German cup quarterfinals, and have lost every single one of them.

Against Dortmund, Die Woelfe will have to do without their left-back Ricardo Rodriguez, who received his second yellow card of the night for time wasting minutes from the final whistle. Earlier, Rodriguez had twice been on target from the spot to secure Wolfsburg’s passage into the semifinals.

Should both Bayern and Dortmund win their home games in mid-April, Germany will have its “dream final” in Berlin on May 17. Bayern Munich then would be granted their chance to get revenge for their 5-2 defeat in the 2012 German cup final.

That year, Robert Lewandowski struck three goals for Borussia Dortmund. On May 17, Lewandowski could play his last game for Borussia Dortmund against the club he will join in the summer.
