U.S. striker Josh Sargent to stay with Werder Bremen during international break

United States striker Josh Sargent will remain in Germany during the upcoming international break.

Having joined Bundesliga club Werder Bremen in February, Sargent made his competitive debut for the club's under-23 side on July 31 when he scored in a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Norderstedt in the regional fourth tier.

He has made a total of five appearances for Bremen's second team, scoring three goals as he works towards his goal of moving closer to the Bundesliga squad.

On Tuesday, United States under-20 coach Tab Ramos visited the 2017 U.S. Young Soccer Player of the Year and Bremen on his tour of Europe.

"We've agreed that Josh will stay here," Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann told local paper Kreiszeitung. "It's better for him."

The paper added that Sargent will get playing time in upcoming friendlies and continue to play league games with Bremen's U23s, who will be playing throughout the international break.

According to the outlet, Sargent could return to the U.S. U20s for the 2018 CONCACAF championship in November.

Earlier this year, the attacker won his first three caps for the U.S. main squad and scored on his debut in a 3-0 win over Bolivia in May.
