James Rodriguez leads Bayern Munich to victory at Schalke; RB Leipzig lose

Bayern Munich celebrate
Bayern Munich cruised to victory away to Schalke on Tuesday night.

James Rodriguez scored his first goal for Bayern Munich and set up two more as his new club earned a 3-0 win away to Schalke in the Bundesliga on Tuesday.

Rodriguez, who joined Bayern on an initial loan from Real Madrid this summer, also contributed to Bayern's opener as his cross was adjudged by the video assistant referee to be handled by defender Naldo, and Robert Lewandowski despatched the resulting penalty in the 25th minute.

And four minutes later James had a goal of his own as Nabil Bentaleb gave the ball away deep in his own zone, and Corentin Tolisso found the Colombian alone in the box for a neat finish inside the near post.

In the second half, James evaded multiple defenders on the edge of the box before chipping the ball in for Arturo Vidal to volley home for Bayern, who returned to the top of the table overnight ahead of Wednesday's slate of games.

American teenager Weston McKennie made his first Bundesliga start for Schalke, who had their two-game winning streak snapped.

Last season's runners-up RB Leipzig suffered their second defeat in their opening five games in a 1-0 setback at Augsburg.

The only goal came on a fourth-minute counter-attack led by Caiuby, whose pass across in the box fell to Alfred Finnbogason, who laid the ball off for Michael Gregoritsch to score.

Augsburg moved up to third place, two points back of Bayern and level on points with Borussia Dortmund and Hannover, who both face games away from home on Wednesday.

Raffael's second-half brace earned Borussia Monchengladbach a 2-0 victory over Stuttgart and their first win in four games.

Following a quiet opening half Raffael broke the deadlock in the 57th minute after playing the ball out wide right to Nico Elvedi before breaking into the box and guiding a volley into the far corner.

The hosts then had a penalty to wrap it up when Dennis Aogo foolishly pulled down Thorgan Hazard from a free kick, with Raffael sending goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler the wrong way from the spot.

Divock Origi scored his first goal for Wolfsburg in a 1-1 draw at home with Werder Bremen.

Origi opened the scoring the 28th minute when the Liveprool loanee redirected Paul-Georges Ntep's low, inswinging cross.

But the visitors struck back on 56 minutes as Thomas Delaney's cross found the unmarked Fin Bartels, who fired past goalkeeper Koen Casteels.
