Bundesliga clubs spent a record total of €617 million over the course of the summer transfer window, a rise of €69m on last year, kicker reported. Unlike the Premier League, the German Bundesliga does not release its official transfer figures before the beginning of every year when the revenue from transfers for the past financial year between July and June is released in an official annual report. However, according to figures obtained by German football magazine kicker, the 18 clubs in the German top flight spent €617m on new players in the summer transfer period, while receiving a grand total of €539m. While Bayern Munich reported a net spend of €67.6m -- and made the most expensive purchase of the summer in midfielder Corentin Tolisso, who joined from Lyon for €41.5m -- their biggest national rival Borussia Dortmund ended the window with a profit of €80.6m, largely down to the €105m transfer of Ousmane Dembele. A total of nine clubs spent more on players than they earned, with Schalke recording a net spend of €40.9m despite 19 players leaving the Royal Blues, with most of those exits being loan deals. RB Leipzig's net spend reached €28.3m, according to kicker, but the Champions League debutants could for the first time next season record a transfer plus, having already agreed on Naby Keita's €70m transfer to Liverpool next summer. Other clubs reporting a transfer plus this summer include Bayer Leverkusen, Hoffenheim and Hertha Berlin, while the two promoted teams, Stuttgart and Hannover, have a combined net spend of close to €40m.
