Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela has praised manager Jose Mourinho, telling the Manchester Evening News he learnt a lot from him in a short space of time.
Varela, given his chance in the first team by former United boss Louis van Gaal toward the end of last season, is currently on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt.
He voiced his gratitude to Van Gaal, saying: "I will always be thankful to him and the club for what I experienced.
"It's a big club and it's definitely not normal to give that chance to a young player, but that showed his confidence."
He said he had found Mourinho "very sincere," with the manager telling him his playing time would be limited and encouraging a loan move.
"A player needs to play and this is what I'm looking for and this is what I sought in Frankfurt," he said.
"I really learnt a lot from the way he trained. The relationship was very good and I was pleasantly surprised.
"Maybe I expected his character when he is confronted with the press, but that was definitely not the case.
"He's always asking how everyone feels, making no difference between [Wayne] Rooney or a player who has just come up.
"He was always joking and ensuring he had a good connection between everyone and himself."
Varela, whose time on loan at Frankfurt has been disrupted by injuries, said he was not sure what his future held.
"We will sit down together to see what's best for the club and myself. Then a decision will be made," he said.
