Borussia Monchengladbach face DFB action over RB Leipzig banner

The German FA (DFB) has opened proceedings against Borussia Monchengladbach over a banner displayed during the 2-1 home defeat to RB Leipzig on Sunday.

Gladbach supporters became the latest to protest against Leipzig on Sunday, with banners contrasting their club's tradition with what they claimed was the visitors' lack of one.

A fortnight after violence had broken out prior to Dortmund's match against Leipzig, one banner read: "We damn every thrown stone... which did not hit you customers!"

On Monday, the DFB told SID it had opened proceedings against Gladbach.

Second-placed Leipzig were formed in 2009 by Austrian energy drink manufacturer Red Bull and are now challenging for the title in their first ever top-flight season following a rapid rise.

Having bypassed Germany's 50+1 regulations, which stipulate that more than 50 percent of a club must be owned by its members, Leipzig have faced severe criticism from many German fan groups.

Dortmund were punished for the violence and the display of defamatory banners by the closure of their Sudtribune terrace for last weekend's match against Wolfsburg.
